Let’s Make Your Stitch Disappear on Felt (Yes, Like Magic)
Let’s say you’re making a cute Hedgehog plushie and you decide to add sweet eyes or a sweet little belly button. Anywhere you need extra shape and that 3D effect, really. Maybe you want the eyes sitting deeper, or maybe you want that adorable little “button” on your creature 🧸🧵.
But then you turn your toy around… and the back looks like a tiny crime scene of stitches 😂. Not exactly “store bought”, not exactly clean, and definitely not as attractive as you wanted. If that’s you, this article is for you, because I’m going to show you a simple solution to hide those stitches and make your toy look clean from both sides.
This Saved Me So Many Times
Hi, my name is Alyona, and I’ve been sewing for as long as I can remember myself. I’ve been really, really into felt plush creation since I came to the UK (and yes… I think it was a decade ago 🙈). Over the years, I’ve tested different techniques – some lucky and very good ones, some… not as good. But this one? This one always saved me when I needed it.
And I use it a lot, because I do a lot of deep eyes and belly buttons on my creations. So stay tuned, because by the end of this article you will know exactly what you need to do.
Before You Start: What You Need (Spoiler: Not Much)
Now let’s get to the interesting part: the process itself. Let’s say you already created your eyes or, like I said, the belly button. If you don’t know how to do that part yet, I have an article on how to make a belly button for your craft project – go and read it first, then come back here so you can really visualise what I’m talking about.
For this trick, you don’t need much. You already have your thread coming out, you cut it off, and now you have that little spot you really want to hide. That’s it. No drama, no extra layers, no panic.
The “Right-Left” Needle Trick to Hide the Knot
All you need is your needle – or something sharp like a needle or maybe a pin. The size doesn’t really matter. If you were sewing with one needle already, you decently can use that same one. For felt work, I usually pair Soft Felt with Polyester Sewing Thread, and then the only “special tool” here is simply a sharp Sewing Needles moment.
So now grab your needle and use the sharp end. Then gently work exactly on the place where you want to hide the knot (or the leftover thread that’s coming out). After that, move the felt around – right to left, and up to down – basically mixing the felt and bringing it from the surrounding area onto the spot you want to hide. In other words, literally move your needle right, left, right, left on the same place a few times until you finally see the felt you’re grabbing from the right and left covering the place you want to hide.

Why This Works (And What You Do Not Need)
Yes, it feels like a miracle. I know. And it’s such an easy thing. You don’t need anything else. And definitely you don’t need to put any patches of felt on top, and you don’t need to use any glue to hide the place either.
You just move it right, left, right, left… and voilà. It’s hidden. Don’t say thank you. I know, I know – you’re very grateful. 😄
